Christiane Cargill joined Wright, Robinson as an associate in 1999. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, gaining extensive courtroom experience. Within her first three years of practice at Wright Robinson, Christiane successfully briefed and argued an issue of first impression in the Ninth Circuit, resulting in a published opinion which has garnered attention in six law review articles and five maritime treatises. She also had the notable distinction of receiving her United States Supreme Court certificate before the age of 30.
Christiane practices civil litigation defense in state and federal court. She has prepared cases in the areas of employment litigation (including wrongful termination, whistleblower actions, and harassment and discrimination of all forms), maritime law, products liability, commercial contract disputes, construction defect, premises liability, personal injury / wrongful death, insurance bad faith, emotional distress, psychiatric injury and fraud, among others. She has also drafted many successful dispositive motions and appellate briefs.
In 2005, Christiane was featured in Glamour Magazine’s Woman of the Year issue as the first recipient of the Toyota Moving Forward Awards for her ability to balance her legal career with charitable endeavors in the arts. She will also be included in the upcoming 2006/2007 Metropolitan Who’s Who Among Executive and Professional Women Honors Edition.

Oakland School for the Arts (involving issues of racial and sexual harassment, retaliation, and constructive discharge); Cutler v. Sportsman’s Lodge Hotel (involving trivial defect).
• Successfully drafted and argued appellate motions in Engine Clean Technologies, Inc. v. Essex Insurance Company (involving issues of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation); Wallis v. Princess Cruises, Inc., 306 F.3d 827 (9th Cir. 2002) (involving the Athens Convention); and Maryland Casualty Company v. State Farm Fire & Casualty Insurance (involving indemnity and laches issues).
REPORTED CASES
• Wallis v. Princess Cruises, Inc., 306 F.3d 827 (9th Cir. 2002). Successfully briefed and argued a maritime appeal, in which the Ninth Circuit held in an issue of first impression that reference to the Athens Convention as a limitation of liability within a passage contract was invalid where the cruise line ticket failed to inform passengers of its terms.
